         Švietimo valdymo informacinės sistemos paskirtis – rinkti duomenis iš Informacinės sistemos duomenų šaltinių, duomenų teikėjų, juos integruoti, agreguoti ir pagal juos rengti sistemos naudotojams ir duomenų gavėjams reikalingus duomenis bei ataskaitas. ŠVIS valdytojas – Lietuvos Respublikos švietimo ir mokslo ministerija, tvarkytojas – Švietimo informacinių technologijų centras.

         Šiuo metu veikianti Švietimo valdymo informacinė sistema realizuota IBM Cognos platformoje. Pateikus pasiūlymą realizuoti techninę užduotį panaudojus kitą BI platformą, teikėjas įsipareigoja realizuoti visus naujus funkcionalumus ir visus jau sukurtus dabar veikiančioje sistemoje funkcionalumus, duomenis, jų apdorojimo algoritmus.
